Receipts

Clique is partially supported by Ohio Metadata Conservation LLC, informally known as OMC. Notwithstanding OMC's “for profit” structure, OMC is registered with the Attorney General of Ohio as a group that asks Ohioans (and only Ohioans) for contributions. OMC's request at this time is that non-Ohioans do not send financial support, as our budget is too small to justify compliance efforts in another 49 jurisdictions. Many Americans have no idea how much regulation and paperwork is involved to run even the smallest project in compliance with the law.

There are also federal regulations to consider. OMC is not tax exempt in any way, nor is OMC a 501(c)(3) organization. We anticipate never becoming a “nonprofit,” never offering a tax deduction to anyone, and never abandoning our core mission to focus instead on self-perpetuation. In light of our size, 501(c)(3) status is not cost-effective for our sponsors. Instead of receiving a tax break the following year, our sponsors contribute less — a lot less — in the year the funds are given. Everyone comes out ahead, because costs associated with nonprofit status would have exceeded any tax advantage for our sponsors, who in turn reduce their own paperwork considerably.

Once in a while, OMC sponsors (presumably Ohioans) choose to make anonymous contributions in cash without providing us means to respond with a receipt. For these supporters, we have set up this page as a means of assuring that the entrusted funds are properly entered in our books and are being spent in the manner intended. It works like this: prior to sending cash, sponsors make a record of the serial numbers on the bills. Once the donation is received at OMC, we post the amounts and serial numbers on a permanent ledger here.

Although we shred envelopes that we believe are from persons who wish to be anonymous, our postal service's Mail Isolation Control and Tracking program scans and records the outside of every envelope they deliver. You might not be anonymous if a return address appears on your envelope.

Ohio law says that any solicitation must state the city where OMC is located, along with the specific project to which contributed funds will be applied. Unless we say otherwise in a solicitation, funds we receive will support the development and adoption of the Clique network protocol. Our address for mail is Ohio Metadata Conservation LLC, PO Box 150, Bellbrook, OH 45305-0150.
